Peggy the therapy dog

When working at home Sara often works with her therapy dog, Peggy. The research of working with therapy dogs details the benefits such as an increase in Oxytocin (linked with bonding) and Cortisol (an immunosuppressant associated with stress) (SCAS, 2010). This can be particularly helpful for individuals who have experienced some trauma in relationship with other humans where the trust has been violated and broken. It can often feel safer to connect initially with a dog such as Peggy rather than head straight into relationship with another human. Peggy is gentle, kind and sometimes a little ignorant which all adds to her character! For those individuals who prefer not to work with Peggy present this can be discussed and managed on initial enquiry.
